VISIT TO NATIONAL AIR FORCE MUSEUM IN DAYTON:
We were planning to visit Cuyahoga National Park today, but
the rainy forecast led us to go to the next item on our Ohio Bucket List - the
aviation attractions in Dayton, the home of the Wright Brothers. We spent the
entire day at the National Air Force Museum which is beyond belief. 17 acres of
indoor exhibits - several hundred planes, missiles, aircraft of all kinds.
Much larger than the Smithsonian or Boeing museums - and
it's all free.
Some of the planes that we saw included a B-24 Liberator, a midget jet and the actual
Hanoi Taxi - the jet that transported POW's out of Viet Nam. The plane that
dropped the Fat Boy A-bomb on Nagasaki (with a replica of the bomb), some
actual Atlas & Saturn rockets, a B-52 that was one of the planes that
"carpet bombed" Viet Nam, a B-1 Bomber, several Air Force Ones, a
flying saucer, a mock up of a space shuttle and hundreds more!
Absolutely amazing!
We could have spent several days there, but we moved quickly
and managed to see the whole thing in one day. If you're ever in Ohio, this is
something to put on your itinerary! WOW!!
