We got to go to the fair
again (this was our third time) this time invited by the Jacobs. We got to learn more about the hogs that our
friends the Klein kids show and learned that one of the boys even has started a
business raising pigs, a great step for a 17 year old!
On Monday evening we attended a funeral
of a 37 year old woman who was killed in a horrible semi truck/ pedestrian accident. Her parents
just moved into our branch from North Carolina and are very recent
converts. The funeral was run by a local
funeral home and almost non-denominational, the preacher really didn’t talk
much about anything. The funeral home charged them an exorbitant amount to do just the
simplest funeral, which was terrible because the family is quite destitute. Our branch president and
relief society president had offered to do a very nice service - of course free of charge,
but the brother of the deceased was very adamant about not having a LDS
funeral.
We also finished cleaning
and sorting Vickie and Rachel’s barn with the help of the Elders, LaFleur and
Jones. Paul had found a man who owns a
Clean Out business and after we finished he came in and bought everything that she
didn’t want. He then hauled it away to resell and then cleaned the barn. It was in need of a good cleaning with years
of raccoons nesting in there and their remains left behind. ick
We love Vicki and Rachel, who are now great
friends of ours! They even came to
church on the week of General Conference and everyone loved them too!
We needed a trailer to
haul the garbage items away, and on our way to Utica to get
Brother Pearce’s trailer we happened upon Branstool Orchards and stopped to buy
apples and watch apple cider being made – and it is absolutely the most
delicious apple cider we have ever tasted!
We had Paul’s birthday
outing this week and long trip to Columbus to pick up Erma from the hospital.
We also taught institute and self- reliance as usual.
We also cooked - alot! We made meals, treats and food for about 70 people over the week!
On Friday we had zone
conference and they are always amazing!
President and Sister Stratford are unbelievable! They, along with the Assistants to the
President and several zone leaders, gave us a day full of fabulous training on being better prepared,
opening our mouths, the sacrament and testimonies.
e even had a workshop on Missionary manners
matter!
Saturday we were invited
to lunch with the mother and brother of one of our branch members, Chris. His mom and brother are members of the
Community of Christ Church and live in New Philadelphia, just outside of our
mission and branch boundaries. Chris suffered a terrible stroke several years
ago and by a miracle lived through it and he lives here in Coshocton and raves
about his wonderful mother and how she nursed him back to health. After meeting her, we have to agree, she is a very special lady! He joined the LDS church after his stroke, and is now preparing to go through the temple!
It was a great week.
