Saying Farewell - April 2018

We will miss the beautiful Ohio countryside!  Every single time we drive through the backroads we say that we never tire of the beautiful rolling hills with the beautiful farms, the wonderful Amish people, the lush trees and grass and the wonderful people!
We will miss it all and it is hard to bid farewell!
We will miss our sweet Coshocton Branch! We had a very sweet and teary farewell Sunday in the branch.  We both got to bear our testimonies and we talked about personal revelation and how important that has been to us on our mission.  We love these people and have learned so much from them.  Sister Little and Trey Gores were just a few photos taken with branch members. It has been such a joy to serve as a missionary, it is hard to think that our mission is over after planning for years and preparing for so long to come! So many emotions, bitter and sweet!  We have loved serving in Coshocton!
We know that going home is the Lord’s plan for us, even though we do not understand everything about His timing!
Monday we drove to Utica to pick up Phil’s trailer (we thought we would need it for transfers) and enroute happened upon the Velvet Ice Cream factory and of course had to stop and take pictures! Paul bought some ice cream, and I bought a t-shirt.
We got to say goodbye to many of the missionaries on Tuesday at transfers! Sister Humpheries, Sister Hall, President and Sister Stratford, Elder Cox, Elder Jones, Elder Robison. We bid our dear Sister Humpherys farewell and brought Sister Wolf back, she is darling and will be a blessing to our branch and blend well with Sister Pead.
Bitter sweet time!
That night, Tuesday, we invited Susan, the sisters and Rain for dinner at Bob Evans for Susan’s birthday celebration. We think that Susan enjoyed the attention and party!
Then we went to the store, grabbed  goodies for Chip, and went to visit them, Chip was having knee surgery in the morning and he and Terri really appreciated the visit and chips and salsa we brought to him. (he is diabetic) (surgery went well!)
The biggest goodbye was with Dustin and Amanda and the kids.  When we stopped at the store, we bought ice cream and toppings and bananas for an ice cream bar and they told us to come after everyone got home from dancing and work, which was about 8 p.m. We had a delightful visit with hugs and tears and promises of us coming back to Ohio and them all coming to Utah.  We love them beyond description and it was so fun to spend the evening with them.  We will be back on Mother’s Day so it was not really a final goodbye and they also are wanting to come to Utah and visit this summer so that would be incredible!! We have such a soft spot in our hearts for each of these incredible people and know that their progress is in the Lord’s hands, not ours!  Perhaps we will continue to be able to reach out to them even from our home in Utah.  It was a tender evening with them! We absolutely know that they are the reason that we were called to Coshocton, and we don’t know the reason for leaving now, but Heavenly father is in charge and we are so grateful for His vision and plan for each of us!
Wednesday we continued to pack and clean and found it hard to take down my “grandma wall”, which included all of the notes, pictures drawn by and letters sent from grandchildren while we were serving as missionaries.  And we also had to take down the calendars that our families had made for us.
We leave out little apartment sparkling clean, well-stocked and ready for Elder and Sister Mecham when they move in in a few weeks.
Wednesday we also had the sisters for lunch as a goodbye (goofy clean out the refrigerator leftovers) and then gave them a bunch of our food.
That evening we had a fun dinner party with the Jacobs and the Pearce’s in Utica.  Boy is it hard to say goodbye to these people! We had borrowed Phil’s trailer because we thought that two sisters were coming into Coshocton for a threesome, but it turned out that only one came, Sister Wolf, so we needed to return the trailer, so we had dinner at Watts.  We finally got a photo of the presidency! Note this was after we were released last Sunday! It was fun to spend such a relaxing and warm evening with these special friends!  They have been such a big part of our branch service in Coshocton.  President Jacobs and Phil and Paul have become life time friends, as well as Missy, Becky and Kim.  We love them! What wonderful people they are!
Thursday, we finished up our apartment, picked up our Coshocton brick from Roger Webb and then headed out!
Wow, it is hard to believe that this is really happening!

Farewell Testimony- April 2018

To our beloved Elders and Sister of the Great OCM!
How blessed and grateful we are to have had the opportunity to serve with each of you in this wonderful Columbus Ohio Mission! We have planned, prepared and looked forward for this missionary opportunity for 40 years and it has been not only a wish come true, but even better than we ever dreamed! Our testimonies of the Savior, His Gospel and His Atonement have been so richly enriched and we have seen miracles in the lives of so many people, including our own!  How grateful we are for the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and all that it means to us in our lives and the lives of people we have met in Ohio! We are so grateful for the blessings of repentance, temples, prophets, scriptures, baptism, personal revelation and the gift of the Holy Ghost. We have been humbled to watch each of you missionaries, young and old work so hard to dedicate your time and energy in the Lord’s service. You are all such wonderful examples to us! We have been so blessed to have had President and Sister Stratford as our Mission President and wife- what amazing, loving and faithful leaders they are! What a blessing they are and have been to us and all OCM missionaries!
We are so blessed to have the assurance of the Lord’s timing in our lives!  We know that this is His Work and we have been blessed enough to get to be a part of it! It is our prayer that our service here in Ohio has shown our Heavenly Father and His Son just how grateful we are for all of the incredible blessings and tender mercies He has extended to us.  We leave you with our testimony of the truthfulness of this His work and ask His richest blessings to be with each of you as you go forward and serve Him among these wonderful people of Ohio! May the Lord continue to bless you as you serve with “power from on high (D & C 38:32)“!
Much Love, Elder and Sister Blanchard

Arayah Elizabeth Ann Seeley Gets Baptized! 4-14-2018

Last night Arayah Elizabeth Ann Seeley got baptized and that was very sweet.  She is 11 and was so afraid of the water and being embarrassed that she was not baptized when her brothers were. She finally decided to be baptized but insisted that it be a very small private baptism.  It was very sweet!
Sisters Hall and Humpheries, Pead and Wolf were there as well as President and Sister Stratford.
We then took everyone out to Witts for ice cream and then we came here and painted fingernails, which is what she wanted to do. Fun evening!
She will go straight into young women and came today.  Her birthday is in 5 weeks and this way she will be associating with Ryann and Rileigh Klein right off the bat.
Sister Blanchard left a family name for Arayah to take to the temple to do the baptism.
Our branch is slowly growing and miracles are happening every day!

The Flu, Complications and a Doctor Trip to Utah. March 2018

The end of February, I started feeling a little under the weather and asked Paul to give me a blessing. He did and blessed me to be patient and that I would be guided to what to take and not take into my body, and that all would be well in the Lord’s time. Well the next day, both he and I caught the nasty flu that was going around! That was a surprise and not what I thought would be an answer to my priesthood blessing!!  And we were SO SICK! We couldn’t do much missionary work for a whole week except sleep, take medicine and feel terrible! We also had to cancel our trip to visit Laurel and her family in Connecticut!
Well after a week Paul started feeling better and I didn’t! Then I was really discouraged! I would feel a bit better and then feel bad again.  It went on for several weeks, with visits to the health food store, text and messaging with Dr. Johnson back in Utah and several more Priesthood blessings.  One of the worst symptoms was terrible nausea that I just couldn’t  seem to find any relief.
Our doctor, Dr. Johnson suggested medications which I took and they helped but the side effects were bad too because of my sensitivity!
He suggested that we might need to do a scope on my stomach, that there might be something going on there that we don’t know about.
In the middle of all of this our mission president, President Stratford, President Birch, President Jacobs and Paul all gave me a blessing and President Stratford told me that I would know exactly what I was supposed to do. As a result of that blessing one night I woke up in the middle of the night and knew exactly what I was supposed to do: go to Utah and get care from the doctors who know me including Dr. Johnson and the scope.
I felt very confident about that and then got hit with a terrible UTI and got really discouraged! So not only did I have the flue, nausea, I had a bad UTI and felt terrible! With my knowledge of herbs and natural health I thought I could get this under control, but was very very sick for four days, and then finally we had to go to the emergency room.  Yes, I had a UTI, but then had to take antibiotics which made me very sick on top of all of that.  I felt terrible!
We had a special family prayer so that I would feel well enough to go home and so I made my reservation and flew home on Sunday March 25th .  I was able to stay in Heather’s basement apartment, where Barbara used to live and just slept and visited doctors for a full week.  I saw all of the naturopathic doctors that I have used and they all agreed that I was really depleted!  Joyce South said, the lights are barely on and no one is home, and Dr. Hirsbruenner said that he could not even test me his regular way, that I was so depleted, that there was a “hole in my bucket”. Darlene Hillock tested me three time and offered many suggestions!  I miraculously was able to get into a new doctor, Dr. Hatch, who said that my body was struggling with metals as well as everything else.  Coshocton is so polluted, the water is bad and so is the air, hence the metals!
I then had the scope where they found bad gastritis and ulcers!  So I was one sick gal!
So after a week of tests and doctor visits I felt that I had the tools to head back to Ohio and get better! I had so many many miracles during that week! One of which was the sunshine, something that I was craving and had not seen in Ohio for months!
During this week of naps and doctor visits, I was able to spend some sweet  time with Gregg and his family and Heather and her family. We even got to go to Charlie Chows together. I even got to watch general conference with my dad.  I missed Paul, but was so glad he was able to carry on the missionary work in Ohio and not be stranded or worried here in Utah. He did call one day and suggest that it might be a good idea for us to come home, which made me cry and cry.  I have been called as a missionary and don’t want to cut our missionary time short, it has been so wonderful!
One other sweet thing is that I felt my mom’s presence with me all of the time.  I got to visit her grave and that was nice.  Because of her I didn’t need to worry about the expense of all of these doctor visits and appointments.  What a blessing!
I know that all will be well in the Lord’s time, but life is sometimes not what we plan.  I have the faith to accept the Lord’s will, but would surely like to stay and serve in Ohio!
I am grateful for the Priesthood and the plan of happiness!
